Reasons For Bethlehem Evangelical
Lutheran Church

The Purpose of this congregation is by means of God's grace through the Word of God and sacraments, to work for the establishment and extension of the kingdom of God. Our concern is for the salvation of souls and the up-building of God's people in faith.

This congregation seeks to attain this end by faithful use of God's Word by its members in private, by divine worship service, and by other congregational meetings and events.

Biblical Foundation

Regarding our faith, we as a congregation adhere to the following:

Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Morris, Illinois, accepts all the canonical books of the old and New Testaments as a whole and in all of their parts as the divinely inspired, revealed and inerrant Word of God, and submit to this as the only infallible authority in all matters of faith.

CONFESSION OF FAITH

The Apostolic Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
