ADF Defends The Will of the People in Louisiana and Kentucky…

As promised, anti-democratic homosexual activists and their allies have begun their courtroom efforts to overturn the will of the people who overwhelmingly approved thirteen state constitutional amendments this past fall that define marriage as between one man and one woman.

ADF is actively involved in the legal battle in several states to defend and protect the will of the people on this nation-shaping issue.  On December 1st, ADF counsel Mike Johnson will be defending the Louisiana constitutional amendment before the state Supreme Court. The amendment was passed in September by 78 percent of the voters.   Please be in fervent prayer for Mike as he argues this case with national legal ramifications for the other state’s amendments and the rule of law.

In Kentucky, ADF will be representing Kent Ostrander, executive director of the Family Foundation, and state senator Vernie McGaha as intervening defendants in the lawsuit challenging  the Bluegrass State’s Marriage Protection Amendment, which was supported by 75% of Kentucky voters.   Ostrander was chairman of the “Vote Yes for Marriage” committee that supported the adoption of the amendment, and Senator McGaha was the primary sponsor of the amendment in the state senate.

Glen Lavy, senior vice-president of ADF’s Marriage Litigation Center says: “The people have spoken overwhelmingly in Kentucky.  Yet those devoted to a same-sex ‘marriage’ agenda will stop at nothing to try to undo what 3 out of 4 Kentucky voters approved on Election Day.  With God’s grace, our clients intend to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

ADF Tells New Jersey School District: “It’s Okay to Say Merry Christmas.”
In South Orange, New Jersey, the school district – in response to years of anti-Christmas propaganda – has joined the ranks of schools banning the playing of Christmas carols.  The school district went one step further.  They elevated the ban to even include instrumental versions!

ADF-allied attorney Demetrios Stratis, in conjunction with the New Jersey Family Policy Council, has sent a letter to the superintendent of the South Orange and Maplewood School District, informing him that the district’s ban is legally unfounded.  The letter goes on to explain the relevant law that shows that the school district’s policy is not only unnecessary, but also amounts to an act of government censorship of religious speech.  The text of the full letter is available at www.alliancedefensefund.org/story/?id=544).

Stratis says: “This sanitizing of religious _expression is the result of a huge deception that Christmas is essentially forbidden in the public schools.  No court has ever ruled that the Constitution demands school officials to censor Christmas carols, eliminate all references to Christmas, or silence those who celebrate Christmas.”

In addition, the internet news site, WorldNet Daily featured ADF’s Christmas Project, which was developed to educate officials on the constitutional right to publicly celebrate Christmas.  You can read this article at:  http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=41610.

Thank you again for your prayers and support that make it possible for ADF and its allies to show up and be actively engaged in the legal battle to defend and protect the right to hear and speak the Truth.
